A Just Harvest’s meal offerings extend beyond 7649 N. Paulina.

Once a week, A Just Harvest partners with St. Jerome Parish on 1709 W. Lunt in Rogers Park to provide a hot, nutritious meal to an average of 50 patrons. In 2015, that added up to over 3,000 meals.

“We started with St. Jerome about a year and a half ago,” says David Crawford, Director of the Community Kitchen at A Just Harvest.

“We saw an opportunity to provide a mid-week lunch for Rogers Park residents who may need a meal or a chance to be with other people.”

St. Jerome, site of weekly meals

The mid-week meal at St. Jerome has a decidedly different feel than the evening dinner at A Just Harvest. Patrons at St. Jerome’s line-up to collect their food buffet style rather than being served. There is also significantly more space in which to sit.

“St. Jerome’s is a former school, so there’s a lot of space,” says Crawford.

“It’s a little slower, a little more relaxed, which gives patrons time to check-in and get to know one another.”

Sue Biver, Owner of VIP International Travel and Lead Chef for the lunch, indicates the Wednesday meal grew out of a desire of St. Jerome’s parishioners to serve in Rogers Park.

“Our parishioners recognized we had neighbors who might benefit from something like this,” says Biver.
